Latex paint on oil paint

On rare occasions, issues arise when latex paint is applied on top of oil paint. Replacements will not mix well with each other. But don’t worry. It is possible to have them integrate nicely. Well, today we are going to talk about latex paint over oil paint.

Latex paint is the watercolors and oil paint is the crayons. They adhere to surfaces in unique manners. Latex paint dries fast and has a rubbery feel to it, whereas oil paint takes forever to dry and has a smooth and shiny feel to it. So, when you apply latex paint to oil paint, it can cause complications. The latex paint may not adhere properly and may be prone to flaking. In order to prevent this, you must prepare the surface before applying paint.

Tips for applying latex paint over oil paint effectively

Be sure to clean the surface well before painting. Next, give it a light sanding to help the latex paint adhere better. Also use a primer so that the latex paint has a good base. When you start painting, do so in thin layers, making sure each layer dries completely before adding another. This will help prevent the paint from peeling and for the paint to have a smooth finish.
